About Me

Hi! I'm Marcia Villalba, a developer advocate and content creator passionate about cloud computing and serverless technologies.
A software engineer from Uruguay ๐บ๐พ, living in Helsinki ๐ซ๐ฎ. With over 20 years of experience in the IT industry, Iโve explored nearly every aspect of software development. As one of the 1% of Hispanic women in computer science, I am a minority within minorities.
I currently work at AWS as a Principal Developer Advocate on the Serverless team. In this role, I help developers bring their ideas to life in the cloud while working closely with AWS service teams to improve the serverless services we all love.
Before joining AWS, I worked as a full-stack developer at Rovio and ran my own consultancy company, Unicorn.codes ๐ฆ. At Unicorn.codes, I helped companies migrate to serverless technologies by providing education and hands-on solutions.
Iโm a mom of two girls and an avid reader. These experiences have greatly enhanced my ability as an instructor, as Iโm constantly learning how people develop and how to better share knowledge. Coding and teaching are my true passions. I love discovering new technologies and experimenting with frameworks, which led me to create my YouTube channel, FooBar. There, I publish at least one video per week, focusing on AWS serverless technologies and managed services.
Iโve also published numerous serverless courses ๐ in both English ๐ฌ๐ง and Spanish ๐ช๐ธ to make cloud education accessible to a wider audience.
Before joining AWS, I was honored to be an AWS Serverless Hero, a Serverless Champion, and an organizer for the Finland AWS User Group. I was also one of the main organizers of Serverless Days Helsinki (https://helsinki.serverlessdays.io/).
In addition, I have taught at the university level, having been a faculty member in the Master of Computer Science program at UPC and a guest lecturer at UCU.
